Fracking continues to be a hot topic in Colorado, and most recently the city of Lafayette, Colorado and Lafayette wants to impose an embargo on new drilling permits within the city limits. They may have already done it by now if City Council has their way.
The intention is to put a hold on any new oil and gas drilling applications for a year. A vote on this topic was tabled earlier in October 2017.
The city passed a “Climate Bill of Rights and Protections” earlier in 2017, and industry officials who are uncomfortable about new regulations say that a stay in permitting would be in conflict with the passage of this “Bill of Rights”.
It seems the intention of the ordinance is to give activists an opportunity to undermine enforcement of the climate bill, and perhaps create a pardon within the city’s municipal code.
