The University of Colorado recently started a major expansion to the Imig Music Building. It’s pretty massive, at 64,000 square feet. CU officials had a celebration on Monday the 4th of 2019.
The university says that it is attempting to address both insufficient and sub-standard spaces for the staff and students in the college of music.
It’s going to be a three-story addition. This includes a classroom, a studio, and several rehearsal rooms. In addition to that, the plans include a recording studio.
New physical locations for the Entrepreneurship Center for music, and the Musicians’ Wellness Program. This is quite a jump for the college of music!
It seems to be a trend at CU that’s growing at an ever increasing pace- enlarging existing buildings and creating new buildings. Whether it’s housing, research, classrooms, and even turning the former ‘Research Campus’ into a more broad view renaming it ‘East Campus’.
Through the last few decades, the College of Music at CU Boulder has become known as one of the top public university programs according to College of Music Dean Robert Shay.
The college of music has often been neglected over the last few decades as a bastard stepchild in some peoples eyes. Finally it’s getting what it has needed for a long time.
