Lover’s Hill Park Boulder Colorado Hidden Treasure

(Either JavaScript is not active or you are using an old version of Adobe Flash Player. Please install the newest Flash Player.)

Lovers Hill Park, and the secret trail to this little park between Bluff Street and Mesa in the Whittier Neighborhood area is quite a pleasant little surprise.
There are many of these pedestrian cut through trails and stairways even in downtown.
Long before residents were thinking of bike paths, cleaning up the Boulder Creek area and creating a trail, or planned communities around the city and county with pre planned pedestrian pathways, Boulder essentially experienced an ‘organic’ development as people moved through town on foot and created what has become some little known routes to access one street from another.
As you wander through neighborhood like Whittier, central western Boulder and even Newlands you’ll find paths and stairways like this one that take you through the neighborhoods on a pleasant journey you can only experience on foot.

Boulder Colorado Settlers Park Red Rocks Trail

(Either JavaScript is not active or you are using an old version of Adobe Flash Player. Please install the newest Flash Player.)

Red Rocks Trail is about one-half mile long. The trail follows a clear path up to the top of a rocky outcropping, and you can end your journey there, as I show in the video, or you can continue onto a network of other short trails.
Beginning at Settlers’ Park, Red Rocks Trail goes north past a historic marker and climbs a rocky ridge with a beautiful view. It follows the ridge, and goes into the saddle to the right of the fins of Red Rocks. The trail then moves on down the ridge, and eventually ends at Centennial Park at the mouth of Sunshine Canyon on Mapleton Ave. This is just west of the Mount Sanitas Trail Head.

For you history buffs, Settlers’ Park seems to have received its name because it is believed to be the spot where the first permanent camp was built by Caucasian settlers in the Boulder area. The group originally pitched tents at the base of the Red Rocks about mid October in 1858.

This is a great little hike, with a feeling of challenge for some of the less experienced members of your group, while still giving those seasoned adventurers a quick respite from the hustle of the city. Easy parking, easy access, and a wonderful diversion you can sneak in even on your lunch hour.
